1962 – Philip K. Dick

Do you ever wonder what the world would be like if the Allies had lost WWII? If so, then you should definitely check out The Man in the High Castle. The premise of the book is just that. It takes place in a 1960’s America that is divided between the Nazis and the Japanese Empire. Although the nation is nominally independent, both of the victors maintain strict spheres of influence. This is alternative history science fiction at its finest. The characters, both Japanese and American are interesting and unique. The plot explores the bitterness and rivalry between the Germans and the Japs now that the war it over. The book is also heavily filled with themes of fate and the permanence of our reality. If you’re a fan of classic sci-fi, Dick is a must read and The Man in the High Castle is a great introduction to his extensive works. Additionally, if your a history buff this acts as a very interesting account of what might have been.
